
WHAT IS GELOSEA?
The Global English Language Olympiad of Southeast Asia, GELOSEA for brevity, is an international competition in English for Primary Levels and Secondary Levels. It aims to promote excellence and proficiency in English Language (Reading comprehension, Analogy, Vocabulory and Spelling, Grammer and correct usage, and Essay writing) through friendly global competitions and to promote Southeast Asia’s tourism, with Philippines as the first destination, then Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to other country partners worldwide.
THE ORGANISATION BEHIND IMOCSEA
GELOSEA is organized by GLOBAL LEAGUE OF WINNERS, INC. or GLOW. It is a duly registered nonstock, nonprofit organization operating in Cebu City, Philippines, with a number of Ambassadors coordinating with its promotion and administration. It is also promoted worldwide by partner organizations in different countries.
ELIGIBILITY CRIETERIA
Kindergarten students and all levels in the Primary School (Grades 1 to 6) and all levels in the Secondary School (Grades 7 to 12) are eligible to join GELOSEA. There is no pre-requisite in participating in this Olympiad.
A. Primary and Elementary Level (Upto Grade 6)
Multiple Choice Questions will be divided into four categories
> Reading Comprehension (30 Marks)
> Analogy (20 Marks)
> Vocabulary and Spelling (20 Marks)
> Grammer and Correct Usage (30 Marks)
B. High School Level (From Grade 7 and above)
Multiple Choice Questions will be divided into four categories
> Reading Comprehension (30 Marks)
> Analogy (20 Marks)
> Vocabulary and Spelling (20 Marks)
> Grammer and Correct Usage (30 Marks)
> Essay Writing (10 Marks)
No Negative / Deduction of point for Incorrect answer.
Test Duration : 90 Minutes
National Round (locally administered in each country)
Higher 60% of the total number of participants shall qualify to the International Round and shall be entitled to one of these awards based on their scores:
90 points or higher – Diamond Medal & Certificate
75 – 89 points – Gold Medal & Certificate
60 – 74 points – Silver Medal & Certificate
Below 60 points and Remaining
Participants in the 60% cut – Bronze Medal & Certificate
Top Scorers – Trophy (Glass)
Lower 40% of the participants shall receive Honorable Mention Certificate.
Global Ranking:
Champion – Trophy (Convertible to Cash for Overseas)
1st Runner Up – Certificate
2nd Runner Up – Certificate
3rd Runner Up – Certificate
Lower 40% of the participants shall receive Honorable Mention Certificate.

> Reading Comprehension – Noting Details in a Story, Context Clues, Characterization, Figurative Language, Idiomatic Expressions, Predicting Outcomes, and Inferences
> Analogy – Single Word Analogy, Double Word Analogy
> Vocabulary & Spelling – Meaning of Words used in paragraph or sentence, Correct Spelling of a Word with Jumbled Letters and Meaning, Sentence Completion using the Appropriate Word
> Grammar & Correct Usage – Parts of Speech, Subject Verb Agreement, Correct Usage of Phrases and Punctuation Marks
Secondary Levels (Grades 7 to 12)
> Reading Comprehension – Noting Details in a Story, Context Clues, Characterization, Figurative Language, Idiomatic Expressions, Predicting Outcomes, and Inferences
> Analogy – Single Word Analogy, Double Word Analogy
> Vocabulary & Spelling – Meaning of Words used in paragraph or sentence, Correct Spelling of a Word with Jumbled Letters and Meaning, Sentence Completion using the Appropriate Word
> Grammar & Correct Usage – Parts of Speech, Subject Verb Agreement, Correct Usage of Phrases and Punctuation Marks
> Essay Writing – Developing a Topic Related to the Theme in no less than 100 words
